  ABOUT "FEELINGS YOU DON'T HAVE WORDS FOR"

Feelings You Don’t Have Words For explores the emotions we recognize but don’t always know how to explain. Through expressive illustrations and the imaginary friends of Karepango, artist and author Emily Her (Emu) gives shape to these experiences with warmth, humor, and compassion.

Rooted in Emu’s own experiences with mental health, the book offers an invitation to pause, connect with yourself, and make room for what you feel—even when the words haven’t caught up yet. It’s a gentle reminder that you don’t need to explain an emotion perfectly for it to be real, or to be worthy of understanding.

About EMU

Emu is an artist and author whose work explores mental health, emotional connection, and the comfort of feeling understood. Drawing from her own experiences with mental health challenges, she uses expressive characters and gentle storytelling to give shape to feelings that can be difficult to name or share. A graduate of the University of Chicago, where she studied Economics and Visual Arts, Emily is the creator of Karepango and the author of Feelings You Don’t Have Words For. Through her art, she hopes to make conversations about mental health more approachable and help people feel a little less alone.
