ABOUT GOD OF WAR
God of War is an action-adventure game series created by Santa Monica Studio, locally based right here in LA! God of War debuted in 2005 on the PlayStation 2 and has become a flagship PlayStation franchise with nine installments.
The story follows Kratos, a Spartan general who makes a deal with the Ares, promising his loyalty and service in exchange for the god’s help protecting Sparta from an impending attack. Tricked by Ares into slaying his wife and daughter, the Greek saga follows Kratos as he assumes the mantle of God of War and embarks on a quest for revenge against the Olympians who betrayed him.
God of War (2018) began the Norse saga which recently concluded with the release of God of War Ragnarök (2022). Set many years after his departure from Greece, the Norse saga follows Kratos and his young son Atreus as they set forth on an epic journey to fulfill the last wish of departed wife and mother, Laufey. Try as he might to avoid further entanglements with gods, to protect his family Kratos finds himself once again clashing with the Aesir under the command of Odin, who seeks to prevent the prophecy of Ragnarök (and his demise) coming to pass - no matter the cost.
The God of War series has won numerous awards, including multiple Game of the Year honors. It has expanded into comics, novels, merchandise, and has an upcoming Amazon Prime TV series in development based on the Norse saga.
