I really wanted to explore the idea of a graphic portrait of Sheldon Coooper from The Big Bang Theory rather than going the caricature route. I also felt it should feature the inner workings of his brain. After exploring a few options, a simplified mix of cogs and symbols seemed the best solution. I love using hand-drawn-type where ever I can in my work, so Sheldon's quotes were an obvious and limitless source of inspiration for me. The only difficult decision was deciding which ones to leave out. The small elements (no pun intended) are all Sheldon triggers and act like a glue, adhering the multiple pieces together to make a single cohesive image. Colour, or the limited use of colour, is a very important aspect of my work. I wanted to see if I could reflect some of Sheldon's "black-and-white thinking." I didn't want to go a totally monochrome route, but it did influence the flat colour styling. - Artist, Steve Simpson
