Gallery Nucleus brings you the work of late illustrator Robert (Bob) Peak, a most prolific American illustrator whose extensive catalog of work delved into advertising, fashion, sports, fine art, and film - forever revolutionizing the look of the modern movie poster.

Bob Peak: Father of The Modern Hollywood Poster (World Premiere Exhibition) features a collection of over 60 original works and more than two dozen limited editions epitomizing the artist's iconic work in film and advertising as well as fine art.  This is an exciting opportunity to view a massive retrospective boasting the range and versatility of a 20th century master., in addition to a rare selection of iconic movie posters and advertising work. This will indeed be a rare and exciting opportunity to view in person, a massive retrospective into the range and versatility of a 20th Century Master.

 

Closing Reception (June 25):

Join us on Thursday, June 25 (6 to 9pm) for a Closing Reception. One final look at this most impressive collection by a legendary artist. We will welcome the artist's son, Tom Peak, who will lead a tour of the exhibit as he discusses his father's legacy and facts behind the featured work. Additional work not featured in the current exhibit will also be on display for the Closing Reception including a rarely seen Apocalypse Now piece. In addition, an expert in artwork reproduction (Richard Trimarchi) will explain the techniques behind the giclee process. Free Admission.

 

About the Artist:

Bob Peak was a master draftsman with a brilliant sense of color, texture, design and style that transformed 60’s print campaigns with bold color schemes that still inspires and finds influence today. For movie advertising, he rendered wildly innovative illustrations from mere film still collages and headshots. In 1961, United Artists hired Peak to create promotional material for West Side Story, leading to the creation of over 100 movie posters, some which include My Fair Lady, Camelot, Rollerball, Star Trek, Superman, and Apocalypse Now In addition to work in the film industry, Peak illustrated 45 covers of Time Magazine - including the well-known portrait of Mother Teresa, now featured in the National Portrait Gallery Smithsonian Institution along with his paintings of Anwar Sadat and Marlon Brando.

Peak’s extensive list of accolades include being named Artist of the Year by the Artists Guild of New York in 1961 & 1977, elected into the New York Society of illustrators Hall of Fame. A Key Art Lifetime Achievement Award granted by The Hollywood Reporter and elected, along with Norman Rockwell and NC Wyeth, into the prestigious Illustrators Hall of Fame.

Bob Peak is represented in numerous permanent collections, including those of American Express, Playboy, Philip Morris, 20 Century Fox, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Sports Illustrated, Clint Eastwood, Sidney Poitier, and others.
