New Artist Submission: Anthony Wu

A perfectly peaceful piece of Luna and her thestral by artist Anthony Wu.  I love how this piece appears as if we're hiding behind a tree in the forest silently watching them interact.

As you know, thestrals are only visible to those who have seen death….can you name any other Hogwarts students that have the ability to see thestrals besides Luna?

New Artist Submission: Bill Perkins

Make way for the half giant on a flying motorcycle!  This piece by artist Bill Perkins definitely gives me the feeling that Hagrid is about to fly over my head.

For those who aren't familiar with Bill's work, you'll be surprised to hear that he has worked on numerous classic feature animations such as Aladdin (Art Director), The Little Mermaid (Layout Artist), Beauty and the Beast (Key Layout/Workbook Artist), and most recently Winnie the Pooh (Visual Development Artist).

When asked what inspired him to create this piece, Bills expressed, "A flying motorcycle! Very cool. Though I took a bit of a liberty with time in the storyline the idea made visual of destiny coming at Harry through relentless owls delivering mail, and a Giant on a flying motorcycle to help him escape his obsurd life with his aunt and uncle."

New Artist Submission: Cory Loftis

Here's  a totally fun and kooky piece by artist Cory Loftis.  Hermione has never been good at Divination and she is notably frustrated here trying to read her steaming teacup.

Cory likes to have fun with his artwork and says, "I am always inspired by the Harry Potter universe and all of its rich, memorable characters that make it such a fascinating place to let your imagination run wild in. For this piece especially I love that for Hermione, there is one school of magic which she has not talent and no use for...Divination. The character of Trelawney and the complete disinterest of Hermione in her teachingsare what inspired me to create these designs."

Be sure to check out his blog for more fun Harry Potter sketches!

New Artist Submission: Mindi Leatham

Look at this deliciously paper sculpted chocolate frog by Arizona based artist Mindi Leatham.   I'm not sure if its because I'm writing on an empty stomach but this piece makes my mouth water!

Created with cut paper and ink, Mindi describes that "there is nothing more iconic of J. K. Rowling’s magical world than Chocolate Frogs.  If I was a Harry Potter character I’d want to be a confectionery owner and I’d keep hundreds of them in a giant terrarium window display where customers could watch and pick out which one they wanted to take home".

New Artist Submission: John Hendrix

A bright and colorful piece by fan and  artist John Hendrix. I think we all remember this scene when Harry selflessly protects his god-father Sirius Black from the looming dementors. A former instructor at New York's Parsons School of Design and Assistant Art Director of the Op-Ed page at the NY Times, John stated on his blog, "The characters of J.K. Rowling's timeless stories have accompanied me on many late nights- a dear companion when I'm drawing in my dark attic."

Look for John's specially designed "Hallows or Horcruxes"  t-shirts on sale at our show!

New Artist Submission: Jaime Zollars

Sometimes a simple look can seem to speak a thousand words.  Our first and only piece of Ravenclaw student Cho Chang, masterfully illustrated by artist Jaime Zollars, shows Harry's first love sailing on her swan patronus in the form of a battleship.

Jaime describes, "The idea is that it is Cho Chang after Cedric dies, relying on her patronus (a swan, and in this case in the form of a battleship) to carry her along as she mourns and collects her resolve to fight for Dumbledore's Army."

Absolutely beautiful...

New Artist Submission: Brittney Lee

Feast your eyes on this jaw-dropping paper cut out piece by super talented artist Brittney Lee!  As a huge fan of Harry Potter, Brittney couldn't resist the opportunity to create this amazing work of art.

As stated on her blog, she chose this particular scene because she "thought it would be fun to illustrate these two unlikely friends, as well as all of the different owl personalities that shuttle messages to and from Hogwarts."

The owls are all sooo adorable!  Make sure to come see Brittney's other piece, to be revealed at the show!

New Artist Submission: Charles Santoso

Take a look at this delightful piece by Australian artist Charles Santoso.  Charles used pencil to illustrate this sketch on moleskin paper.

Charles explains he wanted to "convey the friendship between the two and how they're acting as companions to each other."

We all know Harry would probably not have been as successful as he was defeating Voldemort if not for his faithful companions, and Hedwig was definitely no exception.

New Artist Submission: Jackie Huang

Have you ever seen a pop-up piece quite as grand or quite as elaborate at the ones created here by artist Jackie Huang?  Cleverly constructed so as to incorporate lights and music into the piece, it is truly a beautiful sight to behold.

New Artist Submission: Johane Matte

A cute "before and after" piece by Canadian comic artist Johane Matte.  While Harry may exceed in certain school subjects like Defense Against the Dark Arts, we knew that he was never gifted in the Potions department as comedically illustrated here.

Johane has worked as a storyboard artist for features such as "How to Train your Dragon" ,"Penguins of Madagascar" and most recently as story artist for "Kung Fu Panda 2".

New Artist Submission: Noelle Triaureau

Check out this exhilarating watercolor piece by talented artist Noelle Triaureau. Looks like Harry is going to just narrowly escape a huge cloud of Dementors with the help of Buckbeak the hippogriff. Noelle explained that "The Hippogriff Flight was inspired by Harry Potter's first ride on this magical beast and his recurrent encounters with dementors."

You may have seen some of Noelle's other works from Sony Pictures Animation such as "Surf's Up" and "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs". Noelle is currently the Art Director for the 2012 film "Hotel Trannsylvania".

New Artist Submission: Megan Brain

Finally a piece dedicated to the brazen but heroic Professor and ex-Auror, Mad-Eye Moody. Meticulously assembled and created by paper sculptor Megan Brain, she crafted an optical illusion with Moody's infamous wandering eye.  Standing anywhere near the piece will give you the illusion that the eye is following you!  Ingenious!

New Artist Submission: Troisel

I love the sepia tone in this painting!  It makes this piece look like an old fashioned photograph.  Illustrated by french artist Troisel, who's also a very big fan of Harry Potter (aren't we all?), she wanted to portray something that dealt with "the theme of friendship, which was very present during all the saga and very important in my own life too"

New Artist Submission: Amy Kim Kibuishi

Looks like Harry's waiting to catch the Hogwarts Express!  Illustrated for the first time in goauche by comic artist Amy Kim Kibuishi, she explains her love of the Harry Potter series and how iconic Harry's character is visually.

"He's a great character with a lot of weight on his shoulders, but he's still just a boy trying to get through his studies."

New Artist Submission: Sean Chao

Why its Fluffy the three headed dog! Looks like he's in the process of being charmed to sleep by a Hogwartien playing a flute in the back.  A wonderfully creative little sculpture by Los Angeles artist Sean Chao, he definitely has a knack for creating those frozen moments in time.
Sean's second piece however is a whole other story!  A hilarious illustration in its own right, can't help scrolling up and down to give it that extra oomph of animation.

New Artist Submission: Caroline Hadilaksono

This has got to be one of my favorite pieces so far!  Being a huge Disney fan as well, this classically illustrated piece by artist Caroline Hadilaksono seems to embody some of those timeless posters we've come to see and love at Disneyland.

Caroline wanted to explore the idea where muggles like us can actually visit the magical wizarding world by creating these vintage travel posters advertising the wonder that is Hogwarts.

Where do I sign up?!

Be on the look out on our site for prints of this, and one other painting by Caroline to be revealed at the show.

New Artist Submission: Shannon Bonatakis

Cleverly titled "I Open at the Close", this fantastical piece by talented artist Shannon Bonatakis is truly fascinating!
Shannon explains this is her "homage to the beautiful moments that transpire between Harry and his parents as he walks towards his final fate. Perhaps it is also my best attempt at saying "thank you" to J.K. Rowling for bringing such a special story into the world."

I only wish I could thank J.K. Rowling in such a beautiful way...alas, all I can offer is this blog =P

New Artist Submission: Grace Alba

Oh Luna Luna, could you possibly be the most painted person in this tribute so far?  I simply love this simple and elegant portrait of her in my favorite lion hat outfit!  There's just so much going on behind those inquisitive eyes.  It looks like Orange County based artist, Grace Alba felt the same way I do!

She wrote, "Luna is at once simple and complicated, naive and full of wisdom, serious yet playful. I wanted to portray her with that little twinkle in her eye and a subtle expression on her face, and of course the cute lion hat that I love so much."

When asked how this piece is different or similar than your other works, Grace answered, "This piece is quite subdued, very minimalistic in its composition and carries the theme of contradiction. Those are very much key characteristics in most of my work. I love to focus on subtle expressions and rely on the viewer to interpret the message."

New Artist Submission: Josie Portillo

Harry is out for a midnight stroll through Hogwarts castle and its famous portraited staircase! Illustrated by Art Center graduate, Josie Portillo in gouache, Josie stated that she loves to "paint graphic lit up areas in almost all of my paintings".

I love all the individual little portraits along the walls and the funny bubbly ghosts floating around...sure makes Hogwarts feel just like home!

New Artist Submission: David Vargo

Looks like Hagrid is riding on a huge cloud of dragonfire!  (At least that's how I imagine dragonfire to look like).
A bright and stunning piece by Pennsylvanian artist David Vargo.

Using his love of visual storytelling, David wanted to share the "compassionate moment when Harry falls asleep in Hagrid’s arms while flying in Sirius Black’s motorcycle over Bristol".

This is definitely a piece you have to see in person to truly appreciate!

New Artist Submission: Chuck Groenink

Here is a beautifully illustrated piece revealing the strong bond between Harry and Hedwig by Netherland artist Chuck Groenink.
I'm amazed at how intricate this piece is with all the different contrasts but without the need for a peep of color.

Chuck's other works have been featured on Drawn.ca and Spike Jonze's blog: Weloveyouso.com.
